Living from the Inside Out
I am so often struck by the notion that we have our idea of life backwards. We have the idea that in order to achieve what we want in life, (read: “make the law of attraction work for me”), we must DO things.
You know how it goes: work hard, study, pass exams, pass interviews, invest … And then there’s relationships … flirt, seduce, compete, love, work at the relationship ….
Money and love are for most of us our two most pleasure or pain producing areas of life.
Having DONE things, we end up with HAVING the things we want – supposedly. In reality, we end up with stuff. Cars and mortgages and flat screen tv sets. These have to be insured and secured, so there’s more stuff to pay for so we have to DO more to keep what we HAVE.
So we DO more work, (hate our jobs), get tired, burn out, take our frustrations home, damage our relationships and our health just to keep the things we HAVE and in the effort to HAVE more things, or at least to replace the boring, out-of-date, (because some fashion guru says so), ones we already have, even though they work perfectly well.
This model does NOT make sense! What a crazy idea about life!
Now let’s look for role models of getting it right. Where shall we look? Who can we think of? Hmmm, wait a minute! We want to make life simple, right? So let’s start with simple!
Look at a blade of grass. Do we imagine that beneath the soil the little seed is doing press-ups, puffing and blowing and yelling out, “I must push harder. I must grow into grass. Puff, pant!”
Makes you smile it’s so ridiculous!
Effortlessly, the seed just becomes grass, because that’s what it is.
Try the same idea with an acorn turning into an oak tree.
Even something as complex as a fertilised egg in an ovary becomes a baby. I’ve never heard of a pregnant woman or mammal forcing her baby to grow, instructing it to grow toenails next, or discussing what kind of shape or personality to have. Babies grow and then get born.
So where did we get this idea that we have to push life around?
From our heads – because we can think! We have bought the notion that thinking is something we have to DO! Whereas if we would just let ourselves BE thoughts and ideas would arise spontaneously. We’d know what to DO because it would feel good and feel right. We’d know what not to DO because it would feel bad or wrong.
Here’s great news, if we don’t abuse it! We can choose what to think. This is the power we have that causes the law of attraction to work for us! We can choose to focus on all the bad news in the world or even in our lives, or we can focus on how good life is.
And we can simply notice what comes into our heads through the simple, daily practice of meditation. Since the 20th century, the west has abandoned notions to do with the power of the mind. Indeed, some notions have been deliberately suppressed by the church amongst others, because their power threatens supremacy and mass control.
Imagine a world where everyone instinctively acts from kindness and personal passion!
Meditate on that.

I’ve got a draft going called “Your Thoughts – Core or Circumference” and it speaks to this topic. Thanks for the post.
